"At the time I was terribly confused about very fundamental things, like marriage, relationships, chastity, true love, true heroism. I was desperately looking around for just one example of a couple who did things the right way, got married, stayed married, and did not regret it. I clung to examples that I found in books, mostly old classics, and fairy tales. A couple people close to me could not understand why I loved fairy tales so much. I don't think I really could have explained it to them, at the time. Then I found the book [The Shadow of the Bear] in the house of an acquaintence, and asked them to borrow it. In a time of my life when I was rather afraid of boys and men, I read your tale of the two young men, sleuthing the streets of New York City, risking their lives to bring the man who murdered a priest to justice. Bear and Fish were young, they were men, but they were strong and also kind. They were heroic. It was awesome." -- Maria F., 9/6/09

"I don't have any idea of what, if anything, is "out there" in this category - - - but this is VERY good. The only thing I know to compare it with are Madeline L'Engle's Austin Family series - because there is a solid moral core with realistic characters who have to make tough choices." -- Robert Trexler, C.S. Lewis Society, New York

"About a year ago, I was doubting even the most basic things, such as the Lord. I read your books... and after that, everything seemed to slowly even out, and now my faith is stronger than it has ever been. So thank you so much for these books - they've touched me and helped guide me in so many ways. Thank you so so so much....Your books are my all-time favorites...THANKS!!!" - Chelsea, 6/11/08 (full quote)

"I think that there needs to be more books like yours for teens because it shows that there are people out there who aren't afraid to share the faith, letting teens know that it's cool to have a relationship with the Lord. I think that's one of the reasons why so many people love your books, because it's an alternative to all the other books out there and it shows that you can love your faith, have a relationship with the Lord and still have fun and enjoy life." -- -- Anna D., 16.

In fairy tales there's... Dwarves. Dragons. Fighting. Fire. Princes. Peasants. Maidens. Mysteries.
But how do they manifest themselves in real life? Real life isn't a fairy tale.

Or is it?

In the fairy tale novels, you'll find... Knights. Nuns. Ninjas. Minstrels. Miracles. Princesses. Priests. Chases. Escapes. Rescues. Revenge. Torture. True love.

...for those who have the courage to see life as a fairy tale.

Looking for a good story?

And one that could strengthen a teen's faith?

In their own words...

"These books have, I think, brought me closer to my religion.

They inspire me, and I actually learn more about my Church through your books.

I've been mulling it over for a while, and I think they helped me immensly when I was having a really tough time with my faith.

About a year ago, I was doubting even the most basic things, such as the Lord. I read your books...and now my faith is stronger than it has ever been.

So thank you so much for these books - they've touched me and helped guide me in so many ways. Thank you so so so much...

Your books are my all-time favorites....I'll pray for you, and once again, THANKS!!!" - Chelsea

As a Catholic girl of 16 living in today's world with today's literature, it is so wonderful to be able to pick up a book like one of yours... I love a book with suspense and romance, but I can't find a thing at the library for teens that doesn't have something unacceptable in it. It drives me crazy how adolescent literature has just been "dumbed down" and reduced to nothing but the cheap-novel sort of thing...You are an inspiration to Catholic girls everywhere, Mrs. Doman, and we all truly appreciate it. Thank you for writing the way you do (meaning: "so well that I almost cried when the book was over - I wanted it to go on for 7 volumes!"). -- Emily

About The Shadow of the Bear...

The Shadow of the Bear is one of my favorite books ever. It's one of those books that I can't stop reading until it's finished. As a Catholic teenager, I can completely relate to the characters (especially Fish!). Thanks for writing such an awesome book! -- Joe N.

I love your books, considering the fact that there are so few out there for moral Catholic teenagers. Your books really give us encouragement to keep going and not give up and follow the crowd. Good job! -- Anna, 18, Westminster, MA

This [The Shadow of the Bear] is one of the best books I've ever read. -- Kevin

Hey, Ms. Doman!!! I just wanted to tell you I think [The Shadow of the Bear] is the most awesome book I've ever read! I had no idea that there was a book out there with mystery, adventure, and romance all with Catholic undertones! I think it's so cool how Rose and Blanche speak about modesty and their Catholic faith so easily. I can relate to them so well! (I just turned sixteen.) Thank you sooo much for writing these wonderful stories...May God bless you in your fruitful efforts! P.S. My friends' and my favorite part in the first book was when Rose and Fish were locked in Mr.Freet's basement. I just flipped out when I read on your website you're making another book mainly about them! That is tooo cool! -- Sincerely, J. W.

You're my fav. author. These series are better than "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "Lord Of the Rings" and the book "Mara Daughter of the Nile". Ever heard of the later one? It's good, but not as good as yours. Thank you for my fav. books ever! -- Vanessa

I have read your book several times, and boy! you can write! I am a Catholic teenager from Australia and I have been homeschooled all my life, but I have to smile reading your book because it is SO familiar! The same outlook on life, the same attitudes as we are brought up with! Even the rule of having skirts to the knee! I LOVED your book! Good on you for writing something so wholesome and so enjoyable! But it really should have a "WARNING: READING THIS BOOK IS ADDICTIVE" on it! I picked up your book for the second or third time the other day and got really behind in my assignment coz I couldn't put it down till I'd read the whole thing again! Can't wait to read the sequel! God Bless! -- Brigid

Book 1: The Shadow of the Bear

"One winter night as they sat at home, there came a knock at the door."
-- Grimm

Once upon a time, in New York City, two sisters meet a mysterious stranger, Bear, who comes to their door one winter night during a snowstorm.

Who is Bear? Is he a seemingly homeless young man who has an unusual love for literature and poetry? Or is he a thief who hangs with the local drug dealers? Has he befriended the girls for sinister purposes? For impulsive red-headed Rose, Bear becomes their only friend in a hostile city: to shy older sister Blanche, Bear means danger for their family. And what is Bear's connection to the abandoned church next to their high school, and the unsolved murder of a Catholic priest?

As Bear slowly wins their trust, taking the girls on a surprise trip to the Met and helping Blanche go to her senior prom, Blanche begins to believe that this rough-edged stranger is hiding a heart of gold. And yet, as events unfold, even Rose must admit that Bear is keeping a dangerous secret from them.

A classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm comes to life as two very different sisters, timid Blanche and daring Rose, seek to discover Bear's identity and secret mission in a suspenseful adventure that brings each of them face to face with their own weaknesses and possible death.

About Black as Night...

Thankyou,Thankyou,THANKYOU! My name is Monique, and I finished your book about two weeks ago, and I really, really loved the two books! They are the best books I have read in my life! I got the book from my confirmation sponsor, and I read the first book from my friend, and when I started this book,(as well as the first one!) I just could not stop reading them! And when I went on your website and found out that there would be Waking Rose, I was so excited, that I have told all my friends and I don't think I have a friend that doesn't know about the third book! I just wrote this review to say how grateful I am to have read these books! I am praying for you and your family always! Please bring out the third book soon! Thankyou once again! THANKYOU! --Monique

I just finished Black as Night. Congratulations! You have done it again. Now I can't wait to find out what will happen between Fish and Rose ... when's the third book coming out? ;0) --Lewis

Peace of Christ! First, I must say how thoroughly I have enjoyed both of your books. I first read [The Shadow of the Bear] as a teenager years ago, and now, in my mid-twenties, I still enjoy it just as much. Black as Night was very different in many ways, much darker and more suspenseful, but I really enjoyed the deep look at the fears of Blanche and Bear, and how they began to overcome them, and to really be able to trust. Like you, I grew up reading (Protestant) Christian novels, so it's a refreshing change to read something that is so totally steeped in the Catholic vision of reality, without being preachy or embarassingly pious. Thank you! May God bless you in your writing - it is such an important work, to shape the imagination and let it be formed by the truth! Thanks again! --Genevieve

I JUST FINISHED READING BLACK AS NIGHT; IT IS A WONDERFUL BOOK. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WAKING ROSE. --JOHN M.

I read...The Shadow of the Bear, and Black as Night. They are my favorites. I loved them. I can not wait until Waking Rose comes out. --LaShaun, 16

I love Black as Night. I started to read at 6th grade level when I was five, and I am now fourteen. I have to say Black as Night is the BEST book I have ever read. Thanks and please continue to write such great novels!!! in Christ, Bradley

Book 2: Black as Night

"… a girl as white as snow and red as blood with hair as black as night..."
--
Grimm

Blanche Brier is alone for the summer in New York City, separated from her family.

And her summer job inadvertantly brings her a jealous enemy and unsuspected terror.

She finds temporary shelter with seven friars, but it's not clear to Blanche how she can escape the evil that stalks her.

After Bear and his brother, Ben (a.k.a. "Fish"), discover that Blanche is missing, they cut-short their European trip and begin to scour New York City looking for Blanche.  But the same malevolence that is lurking over Blanche seems to be hunting them as well.

With the lively help of the seven friars, Blanche struggles to sort out the ominous and apparently disconnected events that continue to build until it seems that all hope is gone.

Yet during this time, the desires of her heart are being clarified - and so are Bear's.

A black night.  Honest faith.  Tested love.

This is a great book. The author has given an exciting modern rendition of the ancient story. There is an excellent blending of suspense, excitement and real faith-inspired insights. Beware, some of the stories concerning the friars are true!! -- Fr. Luke Mary Fletcher, CFR

About Waking Rose...

I started Waking Rose about 9:00 PM or so, and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it at around 2:00 AM in the morning...It was an excellent book, especially as it got to the end. Very riveting, and intense... I enjoyed the Shakespeare in it, probably because my English class in my senior year had focused on Shakespeare. We'd read King Lear, so I went through that thinking "Hey, I know all about this!" That was cool. I also liked the way in which pro-life themes and ideas got woven into the plot in a natural way. It made for an incredible impact. Oh, and I enjoyed Steubenville's "appearance" in the book. I did laugh to myself when I saw that Mercy College had a medieval festival in early October. That was pretty cool as well. So I'm wondering...was Sacra Cor based on an actual dorm/household...? [AUTHOR'S NOTE: Yes!] Because those guys just plain rock. --Andrew H., 18 years.

Oh my gosh!!!!! I just finished Waking Rose and I loved every minute of it! I read it in less then 24 hours! I loved the theme about waiting for true love, and I can totally relate to Rose! I think that's what I like the most about the books, how realistic the characters are. This was by far my favorite book I have ever read. Every person in it reminded me of someone I know in real life. And I also love the way both Rose and Fish change spiritually during the book, and of course, I love the pro-life view weaves itself into this colorful story. Bravo! --Emma

I got Waking Rose this morning and finished reading it within twelve hours. It was amazing!!! I could not have put it down to save my life!! The book was definately worth the wait. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into it, despite the hard time you went through. As a major fan (and an aspiring writer myself) it really means a lot to me. Several things I wanted to comment on. One, where in the world did you get the idea for the Cor guys?!?!?! Those guys are amazing!!! Not only do they have amazing faith and humor (not to mention they can fight with swords) but they show a respect for women that is nearly impossible to find in your average guy today. If the Cor guys are based on actual guys you know [AUTHOR'S NOTE: They are! :-)] then I would LOVE to meet them!! --Virginia

Book 3: Waking Rose

"Once upon a time..."
-- Grimm

"I love him more than poetry... I love him more than song."

Ever since he rescued her from Certain Death, Rose Brier has had a crush on Ben Denniston, otherwise known as Fish.

But Fish, struggling with problems of his own, thinks that Rose should go looking elsewhere for a knight in shining armor.

Trying to forget him, Rose goes to college, takes up with a sword-wielding band of brothers, and starts an investigation into her family's past that proves increasingly mysterious.

Then a tragic accident occurs, and Fish, assisted by Rose's new friends, finds himself drawn into a search through a tangle of revenge and corruption that might be threatening Rose's very life.

The climax is a crucible of fear, fight, and fire that Fish must pass through to reach Rose and conquer his dragons.

About The Midnight Dancers...

I just finished Midnight Dancers. Oh...my...gosh. It was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved it!!!!! Paul was AMAZING as well!!!!!! He is definitely one of my favorites now. I loved the part where he is being held captive and Michael is about to hurt Rachel and Paul starts saying the Rosary in Japanese. That part was so cool! I loved Paul's character: he's so gentle and good. Rachel: Rachel was definitely a different character than Rose and Blanche. I must confess I was pretty mad at her at times...But towards the end, when she went back to find Paul, I liked her a lot more... I really liked the ending too. I love the way you end your books Regina! It's simple and sweet and I really like it! Thank you for writing such awesome books!!!!!!!! All in all, WOW!!!! I can't wait for another!!! --dreamer, 17

I finished the book...it is so, so, so, awsome! It's my favorite... I am ready for a sequel. =) I like intense books -- my favorite two are Midnight Dancers and the Black as Night...Thank you so much to Mrs. Doman...for all your hard work... --butterfly, 16

i finished MD at 1:22 am, ...and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i actually liked it MORE than WR... i can't really explain why, maybe its just i liked Paul so that's why i liked this story, or maybe its the fact that i seemed to know each of those girls so well from my own friends and family... maybe it was the fact that you actually DIDN'T know if Rachel and Paul would end up together... even without the mystery (which actually for a story without mystery there was alot of it ) and without our four favorite characters i enjoyed it more than any other Regina Doman book yet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i think i like Paul more than Bear or Fish because... Paul didn't come into the story with having suffered alot... i mean he was in the National Gaurd and all but that was a choice, he was never a victim like Bear and Fish... every time he suffered, like at the end of the story, it was because he chose to do so for the sake of someone else... i think he came across more as a Christ-like character because of that, i know people will say because Bear and Fish had all that extra baggage it made them more Christ-like because they had to suffer again or something like that, but think about it... your life is completely normal (for the most part) since the day you were born, and yet you still choose to give yourself up to suffer for others without thinking about yourself... wow --Dominique, 18

...midnight dancers was absolutely, positively, and without a doubt the bestest book in the series, and that's saying a whole lot. --rosebud, 13

Man was this a good book. I liked Waking Rose better before and I still do, after all, Fish is JUST the coolest. MD, however, is really cool. I especially liked Paul praying the rosary in Japanese at the climax when it seemed as if nothing could help Rachel. I also really liked the rock scene and Paul's whole thing about toys just about is exactly how I think about things and i was like, this guy ROCKS! --Nathaniel, 17

Book 4:  The Midnight Dancers

Why live in the light, when the night seems so irresistible?

Rachel Durham, 18, is tired of her father and stepmother’s staid morality and pristine prosperity.

The summer of her senior year, she’s more than ready for a walk on the wild side, and the door opens - literally - when she and her eleven sisters (and stepsisters) discover a secret passageway out of their historic home on the Chesapeake Bay.

Splitting your life between night and light is a dangerous dance. At night, boys in boats and a forbidden island beckon from the shore, and Rachel and her sisters jump aboard.

The night becomes Rachel’s true world, and her daytime life becomes a disposable mask.

Her puzzled father tries to tow his daughters back into line by enlisting the help of Paul, a med student with a seasonal job juggling at the town festival.

But Paul realizes that simply blocking the girls from their midnight parties isn’t going to solve the family’s problems.

So he embarks on a risky balancing act to gain the girls’ trust – and to make Rachel see that splitting her life between night and light is a dangerous dance.
